The public RSVP chasing is where it tips from unfortunate into genuinely hard to watch. There is a version of following up on RSVPs that is totally normal and expected. A group message, a reminder email, maybe a direct text to close friends. What is not normal is showing up in the comments of completely unrelated posts to ask about wedding attendance. Someone posts about their weekend and here comes the venue headcount question. The secondhand embarrassment is real and it radiates outward.
Cutting people to solve a capacity problem only works if the people you replaced them with actually show up. If they do not RSVP three weeks out the math has officially failed and the original guest list would have been fine.
The person who got uninvited quietly booking a summer trip instead and then watching all of this unfold is living the best version of this story. No argument, no bad feelings expressed publicly, just a nicer summer and a front row seat to the chaos. Getting removed from a wedding guest list feels bad in the moment and then occasionally turns out to be the universe doing you a favor before you even knew you needed one.
